When little babies start kicking inside their mother's womb, it is seen as the first sign of life. But it is more than that. Parents regard their baby's movement as physical training for their future life. But it is still more about it.
It is the beginning of duality. The discovery of "there's more than me" and "I am separated". Whenever the tiny little fingers touch the mother's uterine wall the message "this is where I end and where someone else begins" enters the brain and builds up the structure of the physical self-image.
Imagine you would grow up in open space instead of a limited one - you would never develop an inner certainty about your body. Nothing to touch that could teach you the length of your arms. You would simply not know how big you are, you would miss the next step on the stairs and regularly knock over your cup of tea. A healthy body image is a requirement for the life on Earth.
Research on the human brain has brought to light that there are structures that direct our movement as well as getting the feedback from it. The so-called homunculus represents a - somehow bizarre - little human being in the brain.
Some parts of the body are more important than others in terms of sensibility as the image shows, they need more space in the brain, more neurons. That makes the region of the thumb as big as the one of the whole arm.
The prenatal development from being one with the environment to becoming separated creates the two main desires in humans: communion and individuality. This is polarity. The I and the you we are longing for. So we search a partner to become one with and at the same time want to stay independent.
The aim of meditation is not to become one with everything again in a physical sense - to return to the blissful state in our mother's uterus so to speak - but to become aware of our separation and go beyond it. In our physical life, we need to be separated, we interact with others, work collectively for the good of all and benefit of what others do. In a spiritual sense, we develop compassion for every being.
Today we do not only see flower essences as healing tools, they also play a role as spiritual tools and supporter of self-development.
There are many tools helping us with this task. One of them is a certain flower essence: Magnolia. The Chinese call it the Lotus flower on a tree. Fortunately, we can find it in Europe and do not have to travel around half the world to make an essence of it.
Although there are indications that flower essence has been used for a very long time in Australia, Malaysia, and even Europe in the medieval it is still Dr. Edward Bach, who is considered the father of modern flower essence therapy. His approach was a medical one, after all, he was a physician. He prescribed his remedies according to his patients‘ emotional symptoms in order to cure their physical ones. That is why he asked someone suffering from any kind of pain what pain he felt emotionally. Was it anger or sadness or loss or anything else? This determined the choice of the appropriate remedy, not eczema, the ulcer or a headache.
It took almost 50 years after Edward Bach passed away until new interest in his method came up and the spectrum of utilisation broadened. Today we do not only see flower essences as healing tools, they also play a role as spiritual tools and supporter of self-development.
Magnolia is such an essence that can help you to grow beyond yourself. When we first researched her qualities I called her safecracker adding a Disney comic strip image. Because that is what Magnolia does: she cracks not only the body armor but also the psychic one. That got some people into trouble when they could not sweep their relationship problems under the carpet any longer and started to fight. The issues surfaced and could be worked on finally even if it was painful sometimes and not without tears.
Today we know that this is often necessary to come to inner peace. There is a law in natural healing that says you cannot cure a chronic disease, you can only cure an acute disease. That is why homeopathy regards an aggravation as a good sign. It proves that the right remedy has been chosen. Same with modern psychotherapy. People need to feel the anger or pain or sadness before they can let it go. The chronic and suppressed suffering becomes acute and can be treated.
Magnolia is an essence that guides you beyond your limitations. Especially when it comes to meditation. Imagine a tiny little light above your throat right behind the tonsils. It can be a white light, people who are attuned to gold may prefer a golden light, the colour of the light is unimportant since it is only meant to draw your attention to a certain spot in your anatomy. If you have problems with visualisation try to feel that spot. This is even more powerful, it is just because many people associate meditation with creative visualisation why I mention it. Anyway, let the light (or would you prefer a sound like a gentle hum, you are focussing on a part of the throat after all) or the feeling grow until it fills out your whole head. When you feel, see, hear it (whatever) become aware of your body, all of it, even the toes, the fingers and the ears.
At this point let your imagination grow the light even further. Do not set a goal, just let your light shine. Once you have become familiar with the sensation to be one with the air around you, notice your aura from inside, even fill a whole room, you may want to pet your dog or cat with your light, but not now. This is all about letting go of limitations. Nothing more. It is about to go back to the blissful state inside your mother's womb. There is a memory of it deep inside of you that you can access. A point where you have not yet been involved in polarity, you can recall it and experience it.
In this life you are bound to polarity, that is ok. Denying is dying. You simply cannot live in a dual world without accepting the rules. But if you want it to make sense you may want to step out of it and look at it from the non-dual point of view. As long as you are in the Yin-Yang symbol, you are either black or white, but you do not see the whole picture. But yet you have a little spot of the opposite colour inside yourself. When you become aware of it you simply understand what cannot be expressed by words like these.
Try meditation, try Reiki, try Magnolia, it is all fine.
There are a number of different flower and plant attunements that aim to give you energetic connections with flowers and plants.
