What Is The Ego And What Does It Do?

Your ego is a construct of your unbelievably intricate and beautiful brain. It is created in the left hemisphere of your brain and forms an integral part of your left brain consciousness. It is your ego that gives you your sense of self through conscious thought. It is driven by thought, lots, and lots of thought. It thinks, plans and strategises to keep you safe and is a vital part of your mind. It separates you and your identity from the world around you.

Anything you observe is a projection your ego has created based on your past thoughts and experiences. It is a reality you have created.

With time, the ego builds up a picture of who you are, what you like, what you don’t like etc. based on past thoughts and experiences. This is why you are a unique being as no one will ever have the same experiences and thoughts. No one will ever see the same thing in the same way.

Possibly the most exciting thing about the ego is that you create it and that it presents your realities to you depending on your previous stories or experiences. The actual object or situation you observe is not the object or situation that it is, but rather a projection your ego has created based on past thoughts. This includes how you perceive yourself. It is not your true self or reality. You may be interested in reading the blog post 7 Signs The Ego Is Creating Your Reality.

When Problems Arise With The Ego

Problems can arise when you believe that you are your thoughts. This is in part due to extreme programs the ego creates over your lifetime through overthinking. You believe the stories you have created to keep you safe. Often these stories do not reflect reality and may cause you to react in ways that only serve you or your sense of self. Controlling thoughts start to become more and more defensive. This, in turn, allows fear based mentalities to creep in and you become even more self-focused and centred.

You are not your thoughts. They are projections presented to you by your ego. This means you do not have to be slaves to your thoughts and realities in front of you. Change your thoughts and your reality changes. What will you create?

Attunements may provide an energetic way to work on reducing limiting thought patterns and the influence of non-serving ego. In particular, the Mental Maintenance Attunement may be a good starting place as it focused on all mental energies and aims to remove non-serving energies and strengthen energetic balance.
